Forbes Names Erin Hay, CFA, Nate Tonsager, CIPM, and Jessica Gibbs, CFP® Among the Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors in Virginia

Monument Wealth Management is pleased to announce that three of our wealth advisors, Nate Tonsager, CIPM, Jessica Gibbs, CFP®, and Erin Hay, CFA, have been awarded by Forbes as Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors Best-In-State!

According to Forbes, “Robo-Advisors and artificial intelligence may not be the biggest threat to the wealth management business but aging advisors with inadequate succession plans may very well be.” In fact, J.D. Power found that the average age of a financial advisor is 56 years old, with 20% of the workforce planning to retire within the next five years. This means that wealth advisors must prioritize succession planning to serve the best interests of their clients.

In August 2023, Forbes recognized 1464 advisors under forty years old that stand out in the industry. Nate was listed 17th in Virginia with Jessica ranked 18th. This is the second Forbes recognition this year for Jessica after appearing on the Forbes Best-In-State Women Advisors 2023 list in March. Erin was ranked 24th in the state.

The Methodology:

Formulating the list of the most impactful next-generation advisors comes from both quantitative and qualitative components by Forbes and SHOOK Research. The qualitative data was conducted by interviewing, surveying, and calling thousands of individual advisors across the country. Quantitative data from an algorithm studied the length of experience in the industry, the portfolio of assets managed, and trends in growth and revenue. Portfolio performance is not a criterion due to varying client objectives and lack of audited data.

SHOOK sets thresholds to ensure it receives only the highest quality – they’re not looking for hundreds of thousands of nominations. As such, the research consisted of:

  • 42,108 nominations received, based on high thresholds and qualifications
  • 22,874 invited to complete online survey
  • 17,996 telephone interviews
  • 3,859 in-person interviews at advisors’ locations
  • 1,487 web-based interviews
  • 3,738 individuals considered for our Next-Gen ranking
