A Well-Deserved Makeover

Private Wealth Design

Before I dive into the details of Monument’s makeover, I’ll start by tagging on two REALLY EXCITING updates—we have two new Team members, and quite a few recent awards!

Monument’s New Team Members

Over the summer, we hired Erin Hay, CFA, our new Private Wealth Advisor and Portfolio Manager, as well as Brittany Gabel, a local multimedia artist and designer who is now our Marketing Associate.  Once we finish up their introductory videos and get them up on the website, we’ll send out an email so you can get to know them better!

Monument’s New Recognitions

We have been awarded a handful of recognitions recently that we feel accurately represent the things we are most proud of here at Monument. We will be adding those to the website as well…but I didn’t want to wait to spill the news—

  • Dave and Dean were named 2019 Top Financial Advisors by Northern Virginia Magazine
  • Our Director of Private Wealth Design, Jessica Gibbs, was named a 2019 Forbes Top Next Gen Advisor
  • CityWire listed Monument on their “Future 50” list, as one of the top firms that best represent their vision of the future of the industry
  • We are a Northern Virginia Family Service CARE Award recipient for our flexible policies and contributions to the community
  • We were selected as one of the top three financial services firms in Alexandria, VA by Three Best Rated
  • We’ve been listed as one of the “Best Financial Advisors in Arlington” area by Expertise.com

So a quick congratulations to the Monument Team for being razor sharp, innovative, collaborative and creative thinkers with a renegade spirit, and always looking forward to do our very best for our clients. And thanks to our clients and community for your support, encouragement, and confidence in us.

Now, to get back to the topic at hand…

Monument’s Makeover

When I joined Monument back in 2011, our company was only three years old.  We had an incredible vision and a mission of how we could and would help our clients and have a positive impact on our industry as a whole. While the Partners took that first courageous leap away from a large brokerage firm to own their own independent investment advisory firm, there was a long way to go, and a lot to be done.

Over the years, as you can imagine, Monument has evolved tremendously.  We still follow our same “north star” leading us to find the best ways to serve our clients and always improve ourselves and the way we do things, but we needed…a bit of a refresh to reflect the new us.  That’s why we’ve been working behind the scenes on a re-brand. It has been an exciting and intensive process, and I’d like to share an overview with you, to keep you in the loop.

Our New Look

To begin our re-brand, we reassessed our values, our goals, and dreams. We envisioned the future of our industry, who benefits most from our Private Wealth Designs and how we can and should differentiate ourselves from other advisors.

*And speaking of Private Wealth Designs, our extremely talented VCU summer video intern created this stop motion animation out of paper cutouts! Ava cut each piece of this animation out of paper, placed them on a backdrop, then took A LOT photos….about 3 per second…and meshed them all together into a moving animation. She made a few tweaks after the fact, like adding character faces, but the majority of the animation is paper. (WOW!)

We decided that while on paper, we’re a wealth management firm, in reality, we’re equal parts creative lab, brain trust, and outspoken critics of the financial industry. We provide opportunities for people to use what they have to get where they most want to go—and tap not just their potential for wealth, but heir potential for living.  For our clients, we do it in the form of thoughtful, considered, bespoke Private Wealth Design. For our team, we do it by providing opportunities for education, growth, and collaboration, so that they can become not just skilled advisors, but keener thinkers, creative problem solvers, and better humans.

Not only did we do a full internal assessment, but also refreshed our external representation of ourselves and what we do.  Over the next few months, you’ll notice our new logo popping up as we replace things over time. Our old logo was a bit more traditional, so our new logo better differentiates us from our peers by showcasing our bold, creative, approachable culture.

While a color palette should be somewhat associated with a company’s industry—finance tends to be blues, greens and reds—we have updated our colors to more bold, exciting, modern versions of the colors to show our forward thinking, entrepreneurial spirit.  We don’t want to look like everyone else because we are the farthest thing from everyone else.

We embrace the idea that we don’t need to resonate with everyone, we just need to resonate with someone, so our new messaging has quite a bit more punch to it.  We feel our new messaging better reflects our renegade spirit, culture and straight-forward opinions. You can read more of it throughout our website, blogs and videos.

Speaking of the website…we have a new one that’s been in the making for a few months now, which will be launched by the end of 2019!

Stay tuned for more updates, and thanks again for all your support, feedback and encouragement.
