We’re in the Business of Moving People Forward

We’re in the business of moving people forward

As I began writing this on behalf of the entire Monument Team, I started to grapple with the best way to weigh in on the national conversation surrounding racial inequality.

Monument is in the business of moving people forward. While support, proclamations, and acknowledgments are expected and probably appreciated, moving forward requires critical thought and action, which is where I believe we can make a difference.

People are chafing against an old, established, broken system with no accountability for fixing it. And just because something is old and established, doesn’t mean it works.

So while no one may be looking to Monument in particular for information or opinions on race relations, we are looking closely at OURSELVES…and we will be part of a solution.

As a new initiative to encourage more diversity in the financial industry, we pledge to identify ways to inspire young black men and women to learn about and experience opportunities in our industry and find ways to remove obstacles in an obviously broken system. We have already begun working with local organizations to provide meaningful internships to high school seniors and we are exploring participation in tutoring programs for elementary and middle school students in our local community.

Our efforts will be transparent – we will be accountable to our pledge and you will see our efforts in plain sight. As we’ve always strived to do with our clients, our team, and our interns, we will use this opportunity as well to move people forward.

Monuments don’t appear by chance. Building something that lasts has been something we have believed in since we founded Monument. Building something that lasts can require toppling old structures that don’t work.

Things seem rough in our country right now, but rough times are not without precedent. America has had it tough before and we’ll have tough again, but this right now…this is America’s history that WE are responsible for.

We know we’ll be better off if we all do our part to keep moving each other forward. Together.

Keep looking forward,

Dave
